Confessions of a Pinoy TV Junkie

I must confess. I am in love and that seeing that person is something that I really look forward to in everyday of my oh-so-boring life. When I look up unto his face, the lights seem to dim and the music starts to play and oh, I just fall for him over and over again. I sigh at the sound of his voice and my knees tremble at the sight of his countenance. Andrew has swept me off my feet and I relish every second of it. Yes, I am in love and it feels so good...

--- (Pause and Rewind) ---

I'm in love with Andrew Amarillo (Ryan Agoncillo of Ysabella) and Andrew Angeles (Jake Cuenca of Natutulog ba ang Diyos?). And yes, I am a reformed teleserye junkie. I used to hate ate Elsa (St. Paul Manila Residence Hall aka dorm head/keeper), for not giving us any chance to watch any show other than Pangako Sa'yo, Sa Piling Mo, Krystala and the sort at night. In truth, I found it so bakya that I didn't bother to watch TV at all. Buti kung koreanovela pa yun! It's just that when I think of Pinoy telenovelas before, a very very long and dragging plot comes to mind sort of like that of Mara Clara at ang walang patumanggang pag-aagawan sa diary at locket na umabot ng ilang taon hanggang sa nagpuberty na ko.

Never in my wildest imaginations did I think that I would watch sinseryes religiously as much as I watch them now. Call it baduy, jologs or corny but I actually couldn't care less. Fact is: they're rather entertaining and the a lot of the plot's changed. They feature lighter gists now, the story line makes more sense and they finish faster sans kidnapping and the grandiosity of exploding cars and people. My love story with teleseryes started when I arrived here in California. I tuned in to TFC and GMA Pinoy TV for most of my bum states and that includes watching ABS-CBN's Prime Time Bida. What transpired between me and Maria Flordeluna was love at first sight. I was immediately hooked and so were my ate and kuya. Kuya would always ask me to wake him up just so he can watch even if he's super tired from work. And my ate - she cried with Jo when the boat carrying Leo exploded. But hey, did Maria Flor really had to die in the end? That was just too sad.

Don't get me wrong. I too watch American shows like Grey's Anatomy, House MD and Heroes and they're really great but maganda din naman ang Filipino made. Plus you get to relate with most of the stuff that they show. So if you're still not watching you better get hold of that remote and press 2 or 7. I promise, maaliw ka din as much as naaliw ako. But like everything you still hafta be selective of what you pick to watch.

My personal favorites are Natutulog ba and Diyos? and Ysabella. The former's actually a remake of a drama film (under the same title) that starred Lorna T. Watching it would make you hate Rosanna Roces to the guts and pity and admire Roxanne Guinoo so much that you would want to put her up unto a pedestal and maybe make her a saint. The love story between Jake Cuenca and Roxanne Guinoo hasn't blossomed yet so you can still catch up with what you've missed (hindi pa huli ang lahat para sumubaybay!).

The latter's an original drama/comedy script. At in all fairness super ganda sya! It's very light and fun to watch and every episode's a definite must-see. Kudos to the writers of ABS-CBN for coming up with such an original story revolving around the love for cooking. Ok din ang love triangle nila Juday, Derek Ramsey and Ryan Agoncillo. Gina Pareno's punch lines will also leave you with a lot of kabag.

If you like Papa Piolo go ahead and watch Walang Kapalit. But warning kasi I believe mejo patapos na sya. Hands down also to Jodi Sta. Maria because I stopped watching that series because of her. I wanted to stranggle her so much because she never failed to evoke anger in me whenever. Saksakan sya ng maldita I swear! And if only may Urian and ang mga teleserye, ay wagi siya no doubt!

Don't watch Kokey. Watching him would bring you nightmares. Believe me. Kung gusto mo bangungutin, go ahead suit yourself.

As for Margarita, yeah I liked the promotional photo they did. I also liked the costume but other than that I couldn't find anything else to like. Sorry Wendy and Bruce.

The last Teleserye I watched at GMA was Asian Treasures. It was good at the start but all the Datu Puti, Datu Sumakwel, Datu Dumalogdog, Datu Paduhinogan and Sudama stuff was just too much (ang hirap nila bigkasin noh?). It turned out to be a flop in the end and all the traveling to Thailand, China and Mongolia couldn't quite make up for the lack-luster story. Besides it was an Indiana Jones-Lara Croft rip-off anyway.

Alien?

Alien.

CORY!!! OMG!!! Im a teleserye junkie too. My sister, who works there at US as a nurse, would not last a day without Filipino telenovelas. When the TFC at TX got busted, she went berserk at the TFC-man for missing the shows you stated there.

I love ABSCBN telenovelas too. They make really good telenovelas. In my opinion the 3 best telenovelas in Filipino television: Esperanza, Pangako sa yo and Maging sino ka man; are from Ch2. their creative effort is flawless. love loves it.

im not a wendy fan pero im liking margarita kc i heart bruce hahaha. that was too shallow right? pero seriously, wendy's a newbie yet she's actually really good! ang galing agad! and hats off to jake cuenca too, super cutie na hunky pa. i love it when he acts so brawny and macho. nakakakilig. hahaha.

and kokey? omg. that alien is scary! bakit ganun yung itsura nya! sana man lang ginawang cute and lovable. tsaka sana merong mga cute guys sa show. hahaha. OMG i did not just said that. hehehe :D

tnx 4d visit cory. im flattered by your compliments :D from the bottom of my heart, my sincerest appreciations cory. much love! ;)

(this was my reply comment about the fleet enema incident, feel free to delete the comment after you read it)

@CORY: Thanks for the sweetest, nicest compliments. Glad to hear that you’re liking my posts, and my site as well. Would you think it’s weird if I admit na marami pa akong alam na similar cases? I hope not.

Perfectly said cory! Knowing that the patient was a young girl, cyempre that girl’s perineum is spotless (hairless and wala pang masyadong folds), distinguishing the anus from the vaginal introitus is really easy.

I get your point cory. We’re not perfect naman talaga, and we’re allowed to make mistakes during our practice pero prudence naman when performing nursing tasks. Little mistakes could be tolerated, but that kind of negligence, that’s a different story.

By the way, a friend works in the same hospital, the incident happened before her shift. It was endorsed to her. There was a huuuge commotion daw sa ER—the medical director, nursing director, etc. were called immediately after the incident to come to the ER. Hindi ko maimagine ang kaguluhan!
Thanks for always visiting cory.

@CORY (additional): Actually that was an interesting perspective. The pressures of working in the ER is tremendous and she might be in a vulnerable/susceptible position on that exact time; or she might not be in the best physical/psychological condition to act, but I’m sticking to my guns: that circumstance WON’T EVER, AS IN EVER, excuse her from doing her job imprudently.

@ RUFF: w8 i just viewed ur blogger profile n it said ur just 21. wht? i cant believe na were practically batchmates (or maybe ur a year older). san ka palang schl grad?

lmao @ ur sister's story. that was so funny. at sa Tx pala sya. layo man. she should evacuate to california not unless may hiring bonus sya dun.

At actually inulit pa nga yun dito sa TFC kakatapos lang nya tapos pinalitan ng Kokey. i know ryt, y cudnt they make prosthetics that are more cuddly n lovable n huggable looking? tapos pag bumubuka ung bibig ni kokey- omg talaga he scares the freaking shit outta me!

haha 2 na tayong jake cuenca fan! in fairness he had like a total makeover when he moved in to ABS. he didn't look that good way back when he was still in GMA, mahaba hair nya n it was darker. anyway, nakakakilig nga sya noh? i too heart his pa-macho effect!

tnx sa visit din nurse ruff. ^_^ n ur welcome as always.

uy, i <3 walang kapalit because of papa piolo. hanep sa pag-eemote. i also like jodi sta maria's acting kasi ang impakta niya talaga. at akalain mo yun naging object pa ng board question ang pangalang fiolo (oo ganyan ang spelling).

ang ysabella naman, kakaiba kasi sa recipe nag-umpisa ang lahat. isipin mo yun, isay is on the warpath to become a great CHEP. *lol*

By Blogger KC, at 8:13 AM

@ KC: korek ka jan! parang pag cnbhan akong "ur so conio!" i'd be more offended rather than kng cnbhan ako na "ang jologs mo!" haha... i just think i'm somewhere in between.

ayy! i super fave Ysabella to the max! n i super <3 Ryan (Andrew) sa never ending support at love nya kay Ysay. kakakilig! lmao. f na f ni Juday pati maging Chep. fyi, nag aral muna sya ng culinary arts ek ek before magtape. stig.

yey btw for the cool chick award thingi watchmacallit. ^_^

By Blogger Cory, at 3:28 PM

@CORY: She graduated somewhere from the North. If I'm not mistaken, she's either batch 2005 or 2006 graduate. Will try confirm that. And yeah, MS ward pa talaga. And about the chismis, yeah, it was known all over the hospital *daw. I was thinking of either license revokation/dismissal, or siguro retraining at least, pero the fact na na-retain cya at the same institution is *sooo appaling. Hindi na nawalan ng *hiya. I will try to confirm kung ano na ang progress sa case. Pero I was really thinking that a settlement was made. What kind of nurse was that! =( Oops that was mean.

You're always welcome cory. You know naman na I love TV/celeb chismis and the pop culture. Thanks for the frequent visit. And yeah, batch '06 nga pala ako. =) ust, yup just turned 21 last june.

my friend loves kokey nga pala dong, sabi nya its becoz of ropa. nice to see her back on TV, kahit ndi ko cya msyadong feel. hehehe =)

By Blogger ruff nurse-du-jour, at 8:29 PM

@CORY: Thanks for the frequent visit! This pop culture obsession is sooo addictive right? I couldn’t last a day not watching any American TV series. I will definitely miss watching them when I get back to my work sometime next month. That would definitely be tragic. =(

Yeah Cory, I’ve downloaded that already!!! And her versions of Constantly and Moonlight Over Paris too… And Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas, and Merry Christmas, Darling, and so on… This addiction’s got to stop. =)

By Blogger ruff nurse-du-jour, at 12:11 AM

@CORY: No problem CORY, *most of my blog-links loads quickly when I’m in DSL, and your site loads perfectly well (hence, the comments). Don’t worry about the rules, I’m practically the best example of violating them. I post 15 entries on my main page (before I tone it down to 10), all of my posts are incredibly long, I’m uber-addicted with images and videos, I used to have unnecessary ads, and I still can’t work on the peek-a-boo posts. About the translations, I use the vernacular only on comments like these. I don’t write well kasi in Filipino, at least in English, pwede na rin kahit pa’no.

Glad you liked the post Cory, the typhoon’s out of the country na and I’m hoping the connection’s going to normalize within a day or two. If that still does not happen, there’ll be payback. Hehe

By Blogger ruff nurse-du-jour, at 10:08 PM

By Blogger arnie, at 1:55 PM

Alien! haha Dating Doon days pa yan ah. =P But I guess for Filipinos overseas, teleseryes are a way of keeping them in touch with the Philippines. Buti na lang naimbento ang Filipino Channel. =D

In fairness, I liked your entry so much na it makes me want to consider watching these teleseryes. =) I agree, the acting and the plots have improved tremendously over the years, pero I still find a lot of stereotypes are in place. Well, it wont hurt me to try =)

By Blogger Tami, at 11:08 PM

@CORY: I definitely agree! Last year pa ‘to pinapanood ng friend ko eh, super late ko lang cya talaga na-appreciate (thanks to my loyal DVD provider). And yeah, Heroes addiction is unquestionably contagious. I simply could watch this show over and over again.
Yeah, Peter is hot, esp the way he tucks his hair! So sexy! And he’s a nurse too (like us), hahaha. You’re really lucky with your own superhero Dani. As for me, I’m still waiting for him, I want someone like Peter too, or Ando, or Isaac, or Sylar. =) I’m not that *choosy naman.
Alam mo ba cory I was even planning to post individual photos of each characters! Thanks to self-control and expensive PC rentals, I guess I made the right decision not to. Next post will be even shorter. =) I promise.

By Blogger ruff nurse-du-jour, at 6:55 PM

By Blogger KC, at 10:14 PM

I enjoyed that meme too. It was so fun to do. 1st RP nomination, I’m praying 1st RP win.
-NLE: Yeah it was really controversial. I’m just happy that justice is being served (to review center operators & bon members) and the NCLEX is now here (in RP) to stay. That’s enough reason to celebrate. I guess.
